The Faculty of Animal Science, University of Mataram (UNRAM) organized a Leather Tanning Workshop on Thursday, February 25, 2024, at the Faculty’s meeting room. The event aimed to enhance participants’ understanding and practical skills in leather tanning, while also introducing the latest technologies in the field. The event was opened by Prof. Muhammad Ali, S.Pt., M.Si., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty, who emphasized the importance of mastering leather tanning technologies to improve product quality and increase competitiveness in the leather industry. “This workshop is part of the Faculty’s commitment to supporting the development of the leather industry through innovation and skill enhancement,” said Prof. Ali. The workshop featured several expert speakers, including Ir. Arifin Kustiawan, Secretary General of the Indonesian Tanners Association (APKI), who presented key insights on the basic principles of leather tanning and modern techniques aimed at improving production efficiency and product quality. He also discussed quality control measures in the tanning process, emphasizing the importance of monitoring methods to ensure product consistency and high standards. In addition, Ir. Arifin introduced participants to advanced technologies and innovative tools in leather tanning that can enhance productivity and the overall quality of leather outputs. 

Other speakers, such as Prof. Santoso and Dr. Fauzi, contributed practical knowledge and highlighted current trends in tanning methods, helping participants understand how to apply these insights in their daily industry practices. The workshop successfully brought together academics, industry professionals, and students in a meaningful exchange of ideas about the future of Indonesia’s leather industry. It is hoped that the knowledge gained from this event will support participants in improving the quality and efficiency of leather production across the country.
