The development of the leather industry in Eastern Indonesia
The development of the leather industry at PT. Hasanuddin Agrivis Internusa

On December 9, 2024, University of Hasanuddin (UNHAS) held a special event in collaboration with PT. Hasanuddin Agrivis Internusa to discuss the development of the leather industry in Eastern Indonesia.
The event focused on one main goal: reviving the Leather Research Center in Makassar. This center used to be active in supporting leather production and research in Sulawesi Island, but in recent years, its activities have slowed down. Now, UNHAS and PT. Hasanuddin Agrivis Internusa want to revitalize the center and make it useful again for the community and industry.
During the event, speakers discussed several key points:
- Supporting small and medium businesses (MSMEs) that use leather
- Giving students and local artisans more opportunities to learn leather processing
- Using new technologies to improve leather quality
- Promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly leather production
This collaboration shows how universities and companies can work together to help local industries grow. By supporting the leather industry, especially in Makassar, UNHAS hopes to contribute to regional development.
